The Hand of Glory

OI-050

A Hand of Glory is an object used in dark magic. Basically it is a mummified hand of a criminal or similar that’s been covered in wax and used as a candle for ritual use.

First of all I should apologize for not yet checking and/or replying to mails, comments and such as I’m quite ill and also not very clear-headed right now. After three weeks in the company of sick people I finally succumbed to the flu and spent most of the weekend on the couch, sleeping or reading. I didn’t take any medicine because from experience I know that only 1% works, 80% doesn’t and the remaining bit causes severe allergic reactions. But on Saturday I felt so lousy I took a small amount of a light cough syrup in the hope of catching up on some sleep. It didn’t kill me but it made me delirious and I spent the whole night wandering around in bizarre nightmares.

The first dream was about a ghost. This didn’t last long but it was not very pleasant. It’s a recurring dream in which I encounter a hazy figure that’s hostile towards me.

In the second installment of the dream I was leafing through a comic book full of severed limbs. I can easily trace back where that came from. A few hours before I’d watched an episode of The Dresden Files in which a Hand of Glory plays a part. I’d seen such hands before in books, it’s a popular witchcraft object, but my imagination added a lot of other severed limbs.

Third part I can not explain at all. I was having a picknick in a muddy field with some people I never met before when it started raining and we took shelter in a derelict building. The first room we entered was a huge cellar-like room. We encountered a huge bat in there, and it was friendly and came to sit on my hand (not exactly a typical bat). We discovered it wore a visor attached to a camera. We knew then someone was filming us so we went deeper inside the building to find out who it was. Turned out we were being watched by an alien with a squid head. I thought he was going to kill us but he said he had already renovated part of the house and wouldn’t we like to see it. He invited us into his state of the art kitchen where he served us dinner. HA HA, that was weird and comical.

Fourth part was darker again. I went to the house of my grandparents that was deserted and empty of furniture except for their sitting room. My grandmother (who died a few years ago btw) was sitting in a highbacked chair apparently waiting for me. She looked much younger and more severe than I remembered her. I said ‘I am glad we meet again.’ She didn’t smile. She got up and came to me and she said: ‘You have to be careful. There is danger ahead.’

Mmmm, can’t say I woke up fit and refreshed after the last bit of the dream.
I wonder what she was referring to.

  1. Hope you get well soon!

I love the sweet sense of delirium one gets from a combination of sickness and medicine. Almost makes being ill worth it. :P
